Here's the update:

Come April 1st, our subscriptions will begin charging. To the 21 out of hundreds of sisters & readers paying for this work, THANK YOU! Your open palm is everything to us.

As you've seen, we're ambitious. Publishing, researching, making original work here, podcasting, soon making video shorts, all the things! Come April, we will be sharing those elements of our work in a tiered way. We hope the samples you have seen so far will inspire a Yacumama, Naga, Ouroboros, or Pythia subscription. (So many snake goddesses!)

We'll be clear: our founder Esmée Streachailt put her money where her mouth is. She wants this project to support and to amplify support for women's thought, action, and creativity. She seeded Medusa Rising with several thousand dollars of her own money to make sure contributors get paid and overhead is worry-free for a while. But that risk is the limit of risk she can take. The team has agreed to forego payment until the project makes a profit.

We will need your support to make this project go long-term.

Here's the ask:

Medusa Rising wants women paid for work — all of our work. Until the end of capitalism, keeping the bodymind together is a matter of gathering lucre. The Manifesto for a Radical Materialist Feminism is clear about this:

♀️
We affirm that women’s unpaid labour is an exploited resource that benefits the state, private industry, and individual men living in the same households as women and should be remunerated. The UN estimates women’s unpaid labor to account for between 10 and 39% of GDP across nations. This unpaid labor consists largely of care work from which both the state and industry directly and indirectly profit. In some countries, this unpaid labor includes enslavement for domestic work and sexual use by men. Care work is both skilled and demanding. Unpaid, it constitutes a natural resource reaped for free by the world economy.

The writers, reporters, artists, poets, researchers, & theorists we publish deserve to be paid for their time, energy, practice at their crafts, and for their good works. The movement cannot liberate women if we are not materially supporting women!!

To pay our brave contributors we must ask for your support. If you are supporting us with your attention and by sharing our posts and media, we are eternally grateful. Feminist Ideas Must Walk The Earth! But the women who make them must also walk, and eat, and keep a roof.

This team, this project, and the women we platform are builders of worlds. Your support is the foundation of that world.

We hope to be part of a thriving ecosystem. That's why we've priced our subscriptions to ask as little as possible of each woman. We hope you will share our contributors, the other organizations, projects, and efforts that we will make sure you know about. We want you to give your support to them, too, as you can afford and as fits your vision for women.

To your most courageous imagination!

♀️
We affirm that women’s paid labor must be equitably remunerated, and working conditions must be physically safe and free of sexual or other harassment. All women have a right to employment that garners them economic independence from coercion or control of family or familiar. Professions dominated by women must be elevated in their social stature equal to the training and expertise required to perform them.
