Whispers | by Patricia Stover
We work quietly / Pounding metal / Sharpening our swords

We work quietly
Pounding metal
Sharpening our swords
And donning our shields
We gather our weapons
Pen, paper, voices, and bodies
As whispers of resistance
And resolution
Scurry along the walls
Through the gutters
And down the cracks
To our allies
Who gather in masses
Unseen
Unheard
So that soon
We may fight
Like the lion
We will fight
Like the eagle
We will soar
Like the banshee
We will scream
Like the goddess warrior
